OLDTOWNSTUDIO is a design agency for the games and IP industries, handling everything from character planning and design to large-scale production and ongoing operations.
Alongside our client work, we are building our own original characters and applications.

This is our effort to grow worlds that live longer than a single project — worlds we build ourselves.

Starting from an existing character base, we accelerate series expansion — costumes, backgrounds, seasons, localization — through AI workflows.

This is not a trade-off between speed, cost, and quality — it's raising all three at once.

※ These variations were created with our own original characters and are not yet used in client work. Adoption into client work can be discussed in phases, tailored to your IP ownership, licensing terms, and requirements. The art director keeps creative oversight, while AI accelerates the mass-production and variation work.

At the same time, we are strengthening two core pillars: growing our own worlds, and delivering across borders.

So our clients can stay focused on their core creative work, we take on the production and operational layer beneath it — bringing together the production-design know-how we've built and the new tooling of the AI era.

Original IP, as a second axis.
The production capacity and the commitment to quality and polish we've built through client work now go into our own IP. We will grow our characters, apps, and stories over time.

Across borders.
We've worked location-independent from the beginning, and we'll continue widening both who we work with and who we deliver to — including overseas.

OLDTOWNSTUDIO is currently run fully remote. We care about each person's work-life balance and a focused creative environment.
As a result, designers raising children, illustrators living in rural Japan, and creators based overseas all participate in the same projects on equal footing.
Building on this, we will continue to broaden collaboration with creators across countries and languages.

We bring AI into document preparation, project management, accounting, and information work — not just to mechanically save time, but to redirect that time back into creative work and breathing room. We'll keep widening the scope step by step.

Always balancing quality and scale, we're looking for people who can help lead that work with us.
Note: this opening is currently open to applicants based in Japan at the time of applying. If you relocate overseas after joining, we're glad to discuss continuing remotely.

How we work
OLDTOWNSTUDIO operates fully remote. We believe this offers better work-life balance and a more focused creative environment.
Because of this model, we are currently not hiring as full-time employees. We engage on a contract basis, so you can adjust the volume of work in line with your life and other commitments.
Open to those who can sign a contract within Japan — applicants based in Japan at the time of applying
No need to commute to a Tokyo office. It's fully remote, so you can join from anywhere in Japan
If a change in life circumstances takes you overseas after you begin working with us, we're happy to discuss continuing remotely
Those raising children or caring for family can join the same projects, on equal footing
